The likelihood that animals will survive an emergency depends largely on awareness and preparedness among animal owners and care providers.
Therefore, the main objective of the Animal Lifeguards website is to help small to mid-sized organizations develop high-quality individualized emergency planning documents that can be used to safeguard their animals before, during, and after emergencies. We call this effort the Animal Lifeguard Challenge!
How does it work?
The 'Challenge' consists of 5 easy-to-follow steps:
Step 1 - Complete an Initial Assessment of your Organization's Readiness*
Step 2 - Analyze Risks & Identify Risk-Reduction Strategies*
Step 3 - Develop an Individualized Emergency Action Plan*
Step 4 - Conduct an Exercise to Evaluate the Plan's Effectiveness*
Step 5 - Conduct a Post Assessment of your Organization's Readiness*
*We provide straightforward instructions and fill-in-the-blank templates to assist organizations in completing each step of the process.
How long does the process take?
The process takes approximately 6 hours to complete (on average), is self-paced and does not need to be completed in a single sitting.
Why should my organization take the 'Challenge'?
The Animal Lifeguard Challenge has several outcomes that can benefit you, your organization, and your animals during emergencies:
Developing individualized emergency planning documents can provide lifesaving guidance in the event of an emergency.
The emergency planning process may bring to light deficiencies, such as the lack of resources (i.e. equipment, personnel, supplies), or items that can be rectified before an emergency occurs!
Taking deliberate steps to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies helps promote safety awareness and demonstrates an organization's commitment to safeguarding its staff and animals!
The absence of an emergency plan could lead to severe losses such as injuries and/or casualties (human and animal), civil lawsuits, financial collapse of the organization, and possible criminal charges against the organization's officials!
Building the capabilities necessary to respond effectively to emergencies can help an organization identify and avoid hazards and threats, ensure a coordinated response during an emergency, and recover from an incident faster!
How much does it cost to receive this service?
